Cheshire Homes
Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance is a worldwide organization with affiliations in 55 countries. Cheshire Homes, founded by Group Captain Lord Leonard Cheshire, supports and provide succour to physically challenged girls and women. It started with a single Home after WW II and has grown to Homes in 54 countries.
Cheshire Homes are bound by strict adherence to an international code of integrity, transparency, and accountability. Each Home is a separate entity and is responsible for charting its activities and raising its funds.

A society in which every disabled person can enjoy their rights and has the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
Mission
To create an opportunity for disabled youth mainly girls, by providing an enabling environment to achieve their full potential to lead normal lives.
Cheshire Homes India, Bangalore
Cheshire Homes India, Bangalore has been caring for disabled girls and elderly women since 1961.
It is registered under the Karnataka Society Registration Act 1960, It is governed by 10 Board members and is managed by a management committee by the Rules, Regulations, and Bye-laws of the Society. All committee members are honorary volunteers and not eligible for any form of reimbursement.
The Bangalore Cheshire Homes consist of two homes:
The HAL Airport Road Home
The Home can provide care for around fifty physically challenged girls and women from the weaker section of society. The girls are given free boarding and lodging, education, and vocational training based on their aptitude, ability, and skills. The Home provides medical care including corrective surgeries at the best hospitals. Besides, the residents are given training and opportunities for personal development and other extra-curricular activities such as sports, games, yoga, music, art, and dance.
The Home is situated very centrally in Bangalore in an eco-friendly environment with a garden and space for the residents to enjoy, spacious accommodation, dining room, and kitchen. The Home has a library and TV room, two study rooms, where the students study, and coaching classes to improve their grades. It also provides boarding and lodging facilities to physically challenged trainees and working women on a short and medium-term basis.
The objective of the HAL Airport Road Home is to make the residents economically independent and socially responsible members of society. Those who are unable to become economically independent continue to be cared for in the Home. Many of our residents are now gainfully employed in the service sector and many are married and raising their own families or supporting their parents.
The Whitefield Home
This is a refuge for elderly and severely physically challenged women who are cared for and live in dignity during their sunset years. It has the capacity for looking after 35 physically challenged / elderly women. Activities such as needlework, paper bag making, and other crafts are promoted to keep the residents occupied and encourage them to feel useful and earn some pocket money. The Home has a trained nursing staff, visiting doctors, and hospitals in Whitefield that provide good medical care.
The Whitefield Home is also situated in an eco-friendly location among trees, flowering, and vegetable plants. The residents have individual cubicles, shared rooms, and dormitory facilities.
Registrations and Approvals
The Bangalore home is registered under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act and is exempted from Income Tax under the 80G Act. The home has all the required approvals: Society registration certificate, FCRA certificate, Income Tax 12-A certificate, 80 G Form, PAN card, etc. It is also registered with the Directorate for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, District Child Protection Unit, Bangalore Karnataka. It has received accreditation from Credibility Alliance which sets the baseline for accountability, transparency, and good governance for NGOs.
