|
Email ID: City : |
Address : |
Branch / Corps / Regt:   Rank: |
DOB: 01-May     DOB Spouse:       Wedding Anniversary: |
Brief : Late Flt Lt BP Sharma, Bhola, (as he was called), a resident of village Tilkai in Gaya District and Alumnus of Sainik school Tillaya joined Echo Squadron at NDA in Jan 1976. He was commissioned in the Navigation branch in June 1980. He got posted to 49 Sqn (Dakotas) that was based at Jorhat. He got married to Poonam while serving there.
In 1984, Bhola was posted to Paratroopers Training School at Agra. He was flying the AN-32. AN-32 had been newly inducted into the IAF and the Russians were delivering three aircraft per fortnight. There were enough trips to Russia to go around. Bhola was detailed to proceed on the ferry in March 1985.
The trip involved flying by Air India to Moscow. Then to Kiev (now Ukraine) by Aeroflot. The team would spend a week in Kiev and fly the new AN-32 back to India with night halts at Odessa, Cyprus, Luxor (Egypt) and finally Dubai.
The last stretch would be from Dubai to Jamnagar--a flight of about 2:30 Hrs. The three aircraft maintained a separation of 15 mins. Bhola was in the second aircraft along with Wg Cdr Fernandes and Wg Cdr Bheemiah ( course commander at EFS Bidar when 55 course landed up there.) There has been no evidence of what happened to the second aircraft as it vanished mysteriously. A massive search operation was launched using Aircraft and Naval Ships but to no avail. Speculation was rife and several people even sought the help of soothsayers and spiritualists. A lot of wild goose chase resulted for the family members who kept rushing down to Agra looking for closure. It still remains a mystery.
He is survived by wife (Poonam), Son (Somu, nicknamed Bholu by the IAF) and a daughter who was a few months old when she lost her father. They are residing in Patna.

|
Email ID: City : RIP |

Branch / Corps / Regt:   Rank: |
DOB: 15-March     DOB Spouse:       Wedding Anniversary: |
Brief : Inder Pal Singh Bindra had that rare compassion, by which he could look into his own heart, right at where the spirit met the bone, discover what all could ever give pain, and then refuse, under any circumstance whatsoever, to inflict that pain on anybody else. His sense of compassion for everyone he met had unquestioned genuineness, his very nobleness of spirit defined him. The ever so polite Sikh from Meerut joined Hunter and then came to Fox and has left his imprint on both. The riots that followed the assassination of Indira Gandhi claimed a victim, but for many of us, his gentle smile that would be a constant, lives indelibly on. |
