Reserve Bank of India had published a booklet to make everyone aware of the modus operandi followed by fraudsters for cyber economic crimes. The booklet also lists out do\u2019s and don\u2019ts. Relevant excerpts are summarised below.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. JUICE JACKING – STEALING OF DATA THROUGH CHARGING CABLE<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Do<\/u><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    + Install anti-virus software on your mobile phone to protect it from unauthorized access.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    + Report the incident to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station and National Cyber Crime<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    + Reporting Portal at https:\/\/cybercrime.gov.in<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    Don\u2019t<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

    – Don’t use charging adapters\/cables from strangers.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    1. LOTTERY FRAUD <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Do<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

      + Verify the message received from unknown numbers before trusting them as members of any company or management team.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

      + Always verify such offers from official websites.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

      + Report the incident to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station and National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https:\/\/cybercrime.gov.in<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

      Don\u2019t<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

      – Do not make payments without verification, expecting very high returns.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

      1. ONLINE JOB FRAUD <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Do<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        + Verify ‘the authenticity of ‘the company or recruitment agencies before paying any money. Recruitment agencies generally do not charge candidates for hiring them.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

        + Report the incident to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station and National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https:\/\/cybercrime.gov.in<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

        Don\u2019t<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

        – Don’t pay anyone under the pretext of a job. A legitimate company will never ask for payment from a potential candidate for a job offer.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

        1. FAKE ACCOUNT NUMBER<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Do<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

          + Cross-check an organization’s credentials on a known database to see if they are genuine.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

          +Always approach registered offices for availing products.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

          +Funds are transferred solely based on account number.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

          +Fraudsters may give a genuine company name but give their account number, always verify the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>account number with the company before making a payment.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

            +Verify with the person concerned before making any payment based on the email received.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

            +Verify the email ID.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

            Don’t<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

            – Don’t make payments on receiving requests from random emails or similar-looking email ids.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

            1. MESSAGE APP BANKING FRAUD <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Do<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

              + Be cautious while responding to calls from unknown numbers seeking your account details.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

              + Report to your home branch immediately on realizing the fraud. Block your account to prevent\u00a0<\/span><\/em>further financial loss.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

              Don’t<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

              – <\/span>Don’t trust unknown callers offering easy banking services and sending\u00a0<\/span>texts through Messaging Apps.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

              – Don’t share card details and OTP.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

              1. FRAUDULENT LOANS WITH STOLEN DOCUMENTS <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Do<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                + Always monitor the end-use of the documents in the transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n

                Don’t<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                – Never share your confidential details like your Aadhaar number, PAN number, or cheques <\/span><\/em>with unknown persons.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                1. BETTING SCAM <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  + In case scammed by a fake app\/website, one should immediately call his\/her bank to block the\u00a0<\/span><\/em>card\/account\/UPI service to prevent further transactions.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                  19. <\/span>FAKE VACCINATION CALL<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

                  Do<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                  + Read the entire SMS to read the purpose of OTP.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                  + Report the incident to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https:\/ \/cybercrime.gov.in.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                  Don’t<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                  – Don’t share your Aadhaar, PAN card details, and OTP with strangers.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                  – PAN card-based OTP is used for various financial services including cash withdrawal from bank\u00a0<\/span><\/em>accounts. Therefore, it is extremely important to protect your confidential details like Aadhar and <\/span><\/em>PAN cards from fraudsters.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                  1. COVID TESTING- FAKE ONLINE SITE <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    Do<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                    + Always book any kind of test through registered pathology laboratories only.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

                    + Report the incident to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station and National Cyber Crime Reporting\u00a0<\/span>Portal at https:\/ \/cybercrime.gov.in.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

                    Don’t<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

                    – Do not make a payment in advance when you are doubtful. If anybody asks for an advance payment, it <\/em><\/span>is a matter of caution\u00a0<\/span>and one should go ahead with those transactions with requisite precaution.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
