On 26 May 21 was Buddha Jayanti \u2013 2853rd<\/sup> birth anniversary of Lord Buddha. <\/span><\/p>\n

Buddha was born a rich prince who at the age of 30 renounced all his\u00a0<\/span>worldly possessions including his <\/span>princedom.<\/span>\u00a0 He attained enlightenment and preached dharma (duty), nonviolence, harmony and kindness for 45 years. His teachings became the foundation of Buddhism which is the fourth largest religion in the world today. He was considered to be an enlightened teacher rather than a god.<\/span><\/p>\n

Buddha\u2019s teachings were put to writing in 400 BC. Buddha\u2019s words of wisdom on a number of broad topics have stood\u00a0the test of time<\/em>. His quotes are characterised by their precision, profoundness, and pragmatism<\/strong>. My favourite ones (very relevant even in present day scenario) are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Living<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDo not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Happiness<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are. It solely relies on what you think.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Spreading Happiness<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be<\/em>\u00a0shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Action<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAn idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Anger<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHolding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Health<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery human being is the author of his own health or disease.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cTo keep the body in good health is a duty \u2026 otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Perseverance<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

On Change<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOne moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span>On Controlling your Mind<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span>Last two are most relevant in today\u2019s age of social media<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with opinions just go around bothering one another.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBelieve nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
