CHILDHOOD IN THE AIR FORCE<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In our earliest memories, to Air Force we\u2019re drawn,<\/span><\/p>\n

As military hospital is where most of us were born.<\/span><\/p>\n

Different corners of the country, through postings we’ve seen<\/span><\/p>\n

In camps clean and green we have always been.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Studied in a KV or an Air force School,<\/span><\/p>\n

Went by Green buses ‘coz Yellow wasn’t the rule.<\/span><\/p>\n

Evenings were spent cycling, swimming or playing,<\/span><\/p>\n

Moms would be walking, and dads away flying.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Bada-khaana\u2019 and Tambola, children would be taken,<\/span><\/p>\n

But Rum-punch and dinner Nights, we were forbidden.<\/span><\/p>\n

From one room to two, finally status house was fun,<\/span><\/p>\n

But tenure came to an end, and we were back to square one!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Boxes and trunks got numbered and painted,<\/span><\/p>\n

Soon all belongings into a truck got mounted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Making new friends and change of school so common,<\/span><\/p>\n

As adieus and farewells were bid so often.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Eating-out\u2019 meant at the Mess or Institute,<\/span><\/p>\n

For food-courts and restaurants, our substitute.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parties were often held in the Ante-room,<\/span><\/p>\n

Though, smaller groups preferred the Ladies Room.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He\u2019pter or \u2018Queen Mary\u2019 brought Santa, not sleigh!<\/span><\/p>\n

Christmas party and gifts surely made our day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Festival time, in groups we’d roam,<\/span><\/p>\n

Wishing friends, from home to home.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Dads had uniforms for every season,<\/span><\/p>\n

and also dress-code for each occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

All this and more, are amazingly clear,<\/span><\/p>\n

Memories that bring out of nostalgia, a tear.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This was our childhood in the Indian Air force,<\/span><\/p>\n

Lucky to have it, we realise in due course…….<\/span><\/p>\n
