Some accounts have subdivided the 4th generation into 4 and 4.5, or 4+ and 4++.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #000080;\"><u>Third generation jet fighters (early 1960s to 1970)<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; color: #3366ff;\">The Third generation of fighters were designed to be multirole fighters capable of performing both air defense and ground attack missions.
